After all that bragging...

Weekly total: 90
2012 total: 794

Apparently the girls took a little stay-cation this week.  Only 90 eggs this week.  One day with less than a dozen...really girls?

Sunday, February 26, 2012

I may be a slacker, but my girls are on a roll!

3 week update
As of today 2012 total: 701

Week of February 5-11: 93 eggs* new weekly record at that time
Average of 13.2 eggs per day

Week of February 12-18: 94 eggs* new weekly record
Average of 13.4 eggs per day

Week of February 19-25: 94 eggs

Market is going really well.  I am taking about 7-8 dozen eggs each week including some 1/2 dozen cartons.  I've tried convincing people that they can purchase a whole dozen because fresh eggs will keep for a long time.  Several customers prefer 1/2 cartons and fresh, fresh eggs each week. I can't rally argue with that.

Along with a few cartons of all brown eggs, I've been mixing up colors.  Customers get a hoot out of the tri-color dozen mix.  One lady said it just makes her happy to open the fridge and see all the colors. =]

A comparison of our typical sized eggs:

Weekly total: 45 eggs
December 2011 running total : 56

I ordered some plain 12 count egg cartons from Zellwin Farms. The price was very good, the order was shipped the day after I ordered. The cartons are sturdy and exactly what I was looking for to transport the eggs. Zellwin Farms offers the option to customize the labeling on the boxes which is awesome. I am not quite there yet, but I can't wait to do that. =]

One this morning

Four this afternoon. I cleaned ur the coop today and moved the stone up one next. Three eggs from this afternoon were laid in that next. I has stopped them from laying in the dirt. It is remarkable.

Dirty finds 4

Yearly count: 10

Three eggs in the bottom left nest.  This is looking like a favorite spot for the girls.

One more hiding in the nest right above that.

3 IS the magic number

Wednesday afternoon we got 3 eggs!  All of them where in the coop.  Hopefully the girls will keep laying there.  They are in and out of the coop and nesting boxes all day.

We are almost positive the brown egg is from The Enforcer, a Black Sex-Link. I'm guessing that two of the Brown Leghorns are laying now. The play follow the leader in and out of the coop all morning.

Yearly count: 6

Dirty finds 2

No eggs Monday but Dirty found 2 eggs today.  A white one in the dirt and a brown one in the nests.  The white eggs are from one of the brown leghorns, but I don't know which of the 3.  We're not sure which hen laid the brown one.  We have 3 different breeds that will lay brown eggs for us.

Yearly count: 3  =]

The count starts

We've been waiting since June 11 for these jokers. Today we finally had the first egg laid.

Of course it was in the dirt where the house of cards was but an egg is an egg and I am stoked! Let the counting begin.

1 for those keeping track. =]
